Amazon unveils most popular containment books

With the increase in time spent at home, many of us are reading more than ever. Now we know which titles in particular captivated the nation during the lockdown, as Amazon UK revealed the top ten selling books that people across the country have enjoyed in recent months.

The data revealed by the book-selling giant includes sales and downloads of physical and digital books and the Amazon app between March 23 (when the lockdown was imposed) and May 11.

The top ten list includes a mix of thriller, historical fiction and poignant drama. In first place is Sally Rooney’s Normal People, no doubt aided by the recent successful BBC adaptation, and other writers to make the list include David Walliams, Adam Kay and Hilary Mantel.

Speaking about the list, Simon Johnson, director of Amazon EU Books, said: “Our customers have clearly turned to reading during the lockdown as a way to relax, entertain and grow. From educational titles that help home schooling to comedies to transport minds elsewhere, it is clear that books have helped a lot.
